Fido’s Friends Dog club is a social club for both dogs and their owners. Membership in the club allows you access to the K9 Korral Dog Park located within SCOV. The club is open to all residents of Sun City Oro Valley. We meet the 3rd Thursday in November, January, and March. We also host special events such as Snake Aversion Training and Colorado River Toad Aversion Training. We will also host social events at the park. The park is open 24 hrs/day and members meet daily in the dog park to relax while our dogs play off leash. Upon verification of required dog vaccinations and a $10 fee, the key code to the gates will be provided. To join and request membership material, please send an email to [email protected]

HISTORY OF FIDO'S FRIENDS
In 2005 the Dog Park concept was introduced to the SCOV Board by the Fido’s Friends Dog Club driving force, Bill Abel, a retired veterinarian. A group of dog lovers thought having a fenced park for dogs to run safety would be a great idea. In 2007 the dog park opened on a parcel of land allotted by the HOA, off Del Webb Boulevard. The dog club raised all the funds to make that project happen.
Since then Fido’s Friends Dog Club has provided its members with a safe place to unleash their dogs. Not only has the K9 Korral been a great place for dogs to run off-leash and socialize with other dogs, it has also been a place for dog owners to meet up for friendship and fun. Speaking of canine socials, SCOV Golf Course provides for get-togethers a few times a year at Yappy Hour. There are adult beverages for humans, treats for dogs, and costume contests during holidays. After golfing hours, along the cart path, humans and their canine companions can stroll on the asphalt path and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Plan on meeting many others on “safari” both in their golf carts and out along the twelve holes. The desert provides gorgeous views of the Catalina Mountains, spectacular sunsets, and the occasional wildlife: coyotes, javelinas, rabbits, and an assortment of birds.
Over the years, having a dog has meant so much more than it used to. Now we treat our pets as our companions, our best friends. In SCOV, our pets are special. They help keep us young. We move around more when we have a dog. Dogs get us out of the house for walks, providing opportunities for exercise & meeting people in our community.
So fast forward to 2020. Many of the dog parks being built now are state of the art amenities designed to bring in residents with dogs. The Fido’s Friend’s Dog Club members were surveyed as to what they would like to see in our park. 85% were in favor of adding a separate small dog area. About half of the dog owners have small dogs. Each could have a safe option for their dog to exercise.
Dog Club Co-Presidents Chic Garner & Kari Dufur then talked with founding member Bill Abel about what it would take to make the club vision happen. They developed a proposal for the small dog expansion and presented it to the Long Range Planning Committee. It was rated and approved. In January & February of 2021, Chic & Kari presented the proposal to the SCOV Board. The project passed unanimously. The dog park expansion was awarded $30,000.
With that funding, in 2022 we added not only 7000 square feet for the small dog park, but another 1000 square feet to the existing dog area. The funds were used to clear and level the land, add pea gravel, a water source, a fence and gates to the new area! Now there's even more safe space and room to enjoy the company of our pets and fellow residents!
